Loft Ladders “the door to another world.
There is something about attic ladders that bring out the giant kid in everyone.
More than just a method to reach the attic room, their like climbing into a tree house, sans tree.
A good buddy of mine happens to live in an attic bedroom and the primary time I saw the attic ladder, I must admit it was both daunting and terribly exciting at the same time.
Having successfully completed my first ladder climb, I felt a feeling of child-like joy and pride I Had made it up the ladder without trouble.
Attics are miraculous places. They are rather like a giant walk-in wardrobe usually full of family treasures that have been long forgotten. By folding the ladder up and packing it away, the attic treasures are safe from meddling eyes and thus it adds an additional part of puzzle to people who encounter the loft without a means of accessing the vault of goodies.
This would make a great scene in a puzzle film, where all the clues to clearing up the case were understood to be in the attic but the key to clearing up the mystery was finding the attic ladder so the inquiries in the attic could happen.
Attic ladders also make dazzling storage locations themselves.
Hanging clothes from them or putting books on the steps is a handy way of remembering that a certain item needs washing or that a book must be read.
They’re also a free gymnasium workout “much less costly than paying to go to the gymnasium to do a step class. Attic ladders are prepared and at your service at any time day or night for you to run up and down its rungs in order to get those leg muscles toned and in excellent condition.
It’s truly surprising to me that more folk dont enthusiastically praise of the loft ladder and pay homage to their many benefits in our daily lives.
I am counseling that an Attic room Ladder Appreciation Day be announced every year where people worldwide have picnics sitting on their attic room ladders and offer thanks to the great service they have given across the year before.
One day when I want to get an attic room ladder in my dream house Im going to call him Toby. On Attic room Ladder Appreciation Day I will be able to bake him a chocolate sponge cake and would enjoy eating it now.

The Darker Side Of White Products
Imagine life without household gadgets.
How would your girl wash your clothing?
How would your spouse do the dishes?
How would your sister feed you?
And how would the maid clean your place?
Food for thought indeed.
Or rather: poverty, starvation and complete naked truth.
All jokes aside, there is a troubled side to white products.
When they go a paler shade of off white and all of a sudden malfunction, flounder or flat out die, you may as well be a caveman in a cold cavern bashing 2 rocks together for a spark of light to ignite some brushwood.
I’d imagine it would be very similar to existing in a dystopian combination of the Dark Ages (no lights), the Ice Age (no heating), and the Middle Ages (when you absolutely don’t care about anybody else any longer - except yourself and your daughter’s school friends - and go all in and buy a motorcycle, move into a studio apartment, and get a hair transplant just so you can finally tie somebody else’s hair into a ponytail).
Because the total of those ages would certainly have be the very definition of polar purgatory.
And if your refrigerator, fridge or AC happens to be on the fritz, you might as well pray you were Hot Tub Time Machined all of the way back to the Pleistocene Period - because let me tell you, no kind of preservatives, Tupperware or MSG will protect you from the scary ‘Best Before ‘ date.
Meaning you will need to cook some food to survive. But how are you about to do that without a working stove, rangehood or microwave?
I can tell you how. You are going to have to go all urban Bear Grylls. And fast.
If you aren’t willing to get your household appliances and white goods repaired, you better start picking up some dry sticks and weeds, sourcing half a dozen pebbles, and channeling your inner Cadet or Swiss Army Knife.
Because without a working kitchen and washing machine, you might as well set up a bivouac in your bedroom and start an open fire on your terracotta tiles.
It’s only when you realise exactly how much we depend on electrical appliances and take for granted straightforward pieces of cutting edge technology that we start to understand a humble cup of coffee.
As it would not exist without your kettle.
And the clothes you’re wearing right now would not be clean and tidy (presuming they are so) if they had not washed in a washer, spun in a dryer and ironed on an ironing board with an iron.
So much for progressing from the Iron Age. Or the Bronze Age, or the Stone Age.
Or Middle Age.

A homeowner may have various reasons for wanting to install a kitchen island in a home. They can add more counter top room and create more space for storing kitchen gadgets. Some people will add these units to an older layout and home while others will ensure that these devices are part of a new kitchen set up.
When an eating area is in a square shape, there may be a few places to put the island. Some people will plunk it right in the middle. That can give access to the extra space from any angle in the room. Stools can be brought up to it to turn the area into an eating table.
When a place features a square shaped eating space, there may be cabinets and counter tops located on three of the walls. In the middle there may be a table for eating. Some residence will remove the table and add an island to the open space. The unit can double as a table with the addition of some stools or bar style chairs.
A slim and narrow kitchen space can allow the unit to be placed at the top or bottom of the room. The extra counter could extend out from a counter top that is already in place and be added on an angle, or it could be placed on its own. Double sinks may be added to the space so that anyone using the sinks can look out to a table or a window.
In a large eating space, homeowners can pick and choose the size of freehold counter top. This unit could be large or small. It may feature drawers, shelves and cabinets to help and add more storage to the room. The counter may extend beyond the cabinet and create a place to eat and push under stools. If there is no extended counter space, there may be a breakfast bar style eating area.
A high breakfast bar can be created with the use of stools, high bar style chairs and raised counter top areas. The look can be modern and give someone the chance to use their island for the purpose of eating. The raised area could be slim or wide and provide lots of room.
Some new kitchen models will come with an island as part of the set up. This can be a feature that many homeowners look for in their new set up. While new homes may request that this island be present, others will add it to their older home. Remodeling an older home can still allow for a separate counter top area to be placed in the room.
The advantages to a kitchen island are huge. They can provide a modern and trendy look to an older home. The extra storage can be created in the cabinets and above the counter space. More sink room or area to eat can allow the spot to serve many functions. This area can look great with some modern stools or chairs. People can use it as a place to eat their meals, snacks or enjoy having a spot to socialize with family and friends.

So you own a home in Calgary, and you’re thinking of doing some kitchen renovations, but you’re not sure who you want to call to help you out with them? Calgary is one of the busiest cities when it comes to home renovations, and there are a lot of contractors available if the scale of your project means you’re going to need to hire outside help. In fact, there are so many it can be difficult to decide which contractor you can trust. Here are a few tips to help you identify a great renovations company.
When hiring a renovations company, you’re looking for a company with a great reputation for reliable and efficient service, that has been in business for a number of years and has a friendly, helpful staff. Another asset to look for in a renovator or a contracting company is a designer on staff to plan and budget the project with you, as well as capable and trustworthy work crews who are accustomed to realizing their designer’s plans. From start to finish, this is a company that should make renovating your kitchen an easy and effortless prospect.
One of the questions you can ask a potential contractor is, “Are you insured?” The answer to this question should always be yes. Insurance is the least a company can do to protect you and themselves from the liabilities that could occur on the job site. A company should also guarantee their work, and stand behind the jobs that they do.
Now it’s time to look at the company’s references. The company you want to hire should have no shortage of references. They should also have a portfolio of prior work that you can look through to help you assess some of their previous work and determine further whether or not you and this company are a fit. Interviewing the references you should begin to get a feel for what working with this contractor would be like. Hopefully the picture that is painted is a pleasant one, and one you can see yourself fitting into. Either way, it’s an important step.
And finally there is the contractor’s network of help to consider. A great renovations company has great suppliers and subcontractors. These are a contractor’s invisible team, and they can truly make a difference. If your contractor boasts a great team of help, inquire further. Having great suppliers to choose from can make all the difference between an efficient and affordable job and, well, the other kind. When in the market for a contractor, don’t rush yourself and never regret your decisions.

Why White Kitchen Cabinets Are Always A Good Choice
White Kitchen Cabinets establish the design of the entire kitchen. They can go in any kitchen. The way you accessorize and choose details make them a perfect fit. Many people choose white cabinetry for the kitchen because they equate it with cleanliness, but also because it makes a room look larger.
In terms of price, white cabinets are more expensive than some other cabinet styles, but the price actually is determined more by the wood used to make the cabinets than the white paint or vinyl coating. For example, at one home improvement store a 36″ sink base cabinet will cost $116 in oak, $125 in white, and $154 in maple. There are, however, great variations in the cost and the quality.
The paint or coating can hide the wood used to build the cabinets. For example, the cabinet might be built of particle board, pine, oak, hickory, maple, or most any other kind of wood. It could even be built of plywood. This is an important factor in determining the quality of workmanship in the cabinets.
Choosing white cabinets can be a way to save money by opting for a lower quality material with a good exterior finish. But remember that kitchens get hot and steamy. Be sure you choose a material that will not warp or peel.
White kitchen cabinets are made in a full range of styles, making them ideal in any kitchen design. But it is important to match the style of the cabinet doors and the construction style with the style of your kitchen. Here are some tips to help you choose.
- Traditional kitchens frequently use white. Cabinets in a traditional kitchen usually have a raised-panel door design of some kind. The style is elegant and slightly formal. You will want to keep this in mind as you choose the door style. Southern style traditional kitchens frequently include glass-paned doors, as well.
- White is also very popular in country kitchens. White is most popular in an English country style or a Victorian bungalow or a cottage, but it is also very commonly seen in American farmhouses. Country kitchen cabinets look well used, so white kitchen cabinets can be freely mixed with other finishes as well. Cabinets for country kitchens also typically have raised panel designs.
- White can also be used in an eclectic style kitchen. With this style, anything goes and woods, finishes and decorative features are commonly well mixed.
- Contemporary style kitchens, whether futuristic or retro, also commonly use white. In a contemporary kitchen cabinet doors will have flat, smooth surfaces to produce a sleek appearance. Glass, particularly frosted or textured glass, door panels are also often used.
White kitchen cabinets can be ideal in any kitchen. By choosing the right door style and the right hardware, white cabinets can be used for any kitchen renovation or remodel.

Calgary Kitchen Renovations: What To Think About Before You Begin
So you’re thinking of doing some kitchen renovations? Renovating can be an enjoyable process, especially if you’ve been waiting a long time to do it, but it is important to know what you’re doing before you get started. You’ve probably been thinking abstractly about how you want to renovate your kitchen, and the kinds of changes that you want to make, but before you get started, you’re going to need to start thinking practically about to get the job done.
The first thing to get clear is your budget for a project like this. First familiarize yourself with what you think the project might cost, pretend that you have all the money in the world and pick out all of the changes you want. Next, set your spending cap, and find out what you can realistically afford. If your dream renovations don’t quite match up with your budget, don’t worry. Hopefully you were prioritizing which changes you wanted most.
Next, budget your time. Yes, you just worked out a fiscal budget for your Calgary kitchen renovations, now it’s time to figure out how much time you are willing to dedicate to the project. This is just as important (if not more) as money. You don’t want your kitchen repairs to drag on for months and months because you don’t have the time it takes to finish them. This is a part of the house that you use a lot! So make sure you have the time to do the renovations properly.
How do you use your kitchen? What sorts of things do you do there most often? Are you a big baker? Do you find yourself cooking and cleaning all the time? Is that all you do in the kitchen, or do you eat there, too, or even have guests there? The kitchen is a multi-faceted space, so index the ways in which you’ve been using your kitchen and upgrade it accordingly. These Calgary kitchen renovations are supposed to be making your life easier, so make sure you get the very most out of them.
Few home-related projects are more exciting (or rewarding) than a good, complete kitchen renovation. But before you even start, make sure that it’s the project you’re looking for. It’s best not to begin a project that you’re not going to finish.
