How to Cook a Terrific Steak

If you want to cook a really good steak, the best way to do it is always with dry, direct heat, such as a grill. The reason for this is that the dry heat will make the outside of the steak to turn brown and to carmelize. This helps to give your steak that very complex, rich, browned flavor that so many of us love. The reason that this happens is that the sugars that are in the piece of steak go through a bunch of complex chemical reactions that is called the Mallard reaction. Basically, the moisture on the outside of the steak evaporates and the juices inside get more concentrated. This is what forms that great brown crust on the outside of the steak.

Part of what goes into cooking a really tasty steak is to start off by buying a good piece of meat at the store. You should try to purchase the best piece of steak that fits in your budget. We recommend that you select USDA prime aged beef. If your store does not have this meat, the next best thing to buy is Choice beef. When you buy the meat you should be looking for steak that has a fine texture and is very firm when you press it with your finger. You want to see a color that is light cherry red, not red that is very deep. You should look for a steak that has a lot of marbling. What makes the steak so good is that very fine, thin fat threads that go through the meat. For flavor a lot of marbling that is throughout the steak is a great thing! Of course, if you do not want to have a lot of saturated fat in your diet, you will want to avoid marbled beef. Also, remember that the size and thickness of the meat you buy makes a difference. The very best steaks will usually be about 1 inch thick. A cut that is very thin will get dry fast. We find that the thickness of the meat is of more importance than its weight.

Another key part of a good steak on the plate is allowing the meat to get to the temperature of your room, about 70 degrees, before you throw it on the grill. A steak that is cold from the fridge contracts when it hits the hot grill. This will make it tougher. This is probably the big mistake that many people make when they grill steak. It is a good idea to take your steak out of the fridge about 30-60 minutes before you are going to grill it. Also, your steak should be dried with a paper towel before you grill them. It should be really dry. If you have a wet steak you are basically steaming your steak!

A steak that is cold from the chiller contracts when it hits the hot grill. This makes it harder. This is perhaps the genuine gaffe that many people make when they grill steak.

It’s an excellent concept to take your steak out of the chiller about 30-60 minutes before you are going to grill it. Also, your steak should be dried with a paper hand towel before you grill them. It should be really dry. If you have a wet steak you are basically steaming your steak! It isn’t a superb idea to salt your steak before you cook it. You will get a steak that is more mouth watering and savory. It is usually feasible to salt the steak as you love it after it is finished cooking. The reason for that is that salt takes the moisture to the height of the steak, and this makes water stay on the steak surface when you cook. This makes you simply about steam the steak. When you are prepared to grill your steak, you need to heat your grill to its cooking temperature. Always begin with a hot grill. You’ll put some non sticking kitchen spray on your grill before beginning. Always put your steaks on a hot grill. Make sure that you only flip your steaks one time.

Fish is more delicate than meat is, so you have to take care when cooking fish that you do not dry it out. To keep your fish moist, you should cook your fish fast over hot, direct heat, or you can try poaching too. There are other good ways you can cook your fish that are very healthy and tasty. More about the various ways to cook your fish are detailed below.

You can grill your fish and make it delicious, but you have to take care while grilling. Fish will take just a few minutes on each side to cook. If the fillets are even in size and thickness, you may not even need to flip them. You can cook them on just one side. We like to brush the piece of fish with oil to help brown it and give it more flavor. You can put your fish on the edge of the grill and not over the hottest area. If you attempt to lift the fish off right away, it will usually stick. Also, you should check the fish for doneness after 2-3 minutes of grilling. You should flip the fish to the other side when you begin to see grill marks showing.

You want to employ a bamboo steamer or a steamer basket that folds. You want to put about 1.5 inches of water in your pan. You then put the steamer over the water and cover the pot. You then will make the water boil. You can begin to look at your fish if it is done after 10 minutes. Steaming your fish is one of the most healthy ways you can eat it. Another good way to cook fish is to saute it. You want to utilise this when the weather isn’t good to grill. Sauting is a good selection if you’d like a simple and good way to prepared your fish with intensely tasty results. It will make your fish nice and brown and is also truly convenient to cook this way because you’ve a heat source that is temperature controlled.

The Meat Slicer - A Great Appliance

A professional quality meat slicer has become an essential kitchen appliance in most American households today. Whether you like preparing gourmet meals or simple meat sandwiches, you do not need to pay deli prices for sliced meat anymore.

Those seeking a home-use meat slicer may opt for either an electric or manual hand-operated model. As the former title indicates, electric meat slicers utilize electrically-operated cutting blades that may be adjusted to various speeds.

If you want a meat slicer for home use, you can go for either manual or electric variety. As the name clearly implies, an electric meat slicer uses electrically operating blades that come with adjustable speed options. On the other hand, a manual model comprise of blades that run manually and are preferred by many home cooks who enjoy the feeling of shaping the meat for their culinary preparations. In order to make a sound purchasing decision, you should keep a few important pointers in mind while buying a meat slicer. These include the size of the slicer that will be apt for your needs, the speed of cutting, the cost of the slicer, and the clean up requirements of the same.

The size of the meat carriage, which can range from 7 to 12 inches and the blade size of the machine are important considerations before purchasing. If the buyer envisions using the machine often and for many styles of meat, cheese, and produce, it should be durable and able to hold up to the daily usage. A slicer that is only used a few times a year won’t need to be so high grade.

Serious human carnivores should consider a medium-sized electrical meat slicer. This option is ideal for in-home use and presents no overheating hazard when the motor becomes warm from prolonged operation. This problem frequently occurs with the majority of light-duty meat slicer designs that are currently available.

Frequent meat eaters should buy a medium duty electric meat slicer. This is perfect for home use and does not pose the risk of overheating of the motor and subsequent damage to it due to regular use. This is a common problem with most light duty slicers available in the market. Other important feature of the slicer that you should consider at the time of purchase is the dimension of the blade, especially if you cut large chunks of meat. Ideally, a 10-inch blade is apt for meeting all home cooking needs. You can also use a meat slicer for slicing cheese and other vegetables. Whether you opt to buy an electric meat slicer or a manual one, do not forget to compare the offers available on them in online stores to get the best deal.

Why Meat Slicers Are A Necessary Appliance

People generally find that wasting time waiting in line for the deli is boring and keeps them from other important things in their day. Although not many may have thought of it, a private meat slicer can solve this particular trouble. A private meat slicer will allow and individual to slice their own meat, as much or as little as they want according to the preference of the individual.

When shopping for a meat slicer for home use, there is either electric or manual to choose from. The electric powered blades with adjustable speeds are the name sake of the electrical models. In contrast, some chefs prefer a more personal touch and are more inclined to run a manual model by hand.

To make the best decision there a number of factors you should keep in mind when in the market to purchase a meat slicer. Some of these include the speed you need things cut, the size that would be most appropriate for your uses, the difficulty of cleaning the machine and, of course, the cost.

If you do not have a whole lot of time to spend in the kitchen and like things done the quick and easy way, the electric version is more your speed. They are light, easy to clean and will not burn a hole in your wallet. As an added bonus most have a safety lock to prevent accidents. On the other hand, although they weigh a bit more and take more time to complete the task, manual models come with the satisfaction of doing a fine job yourself. The weight is even beneficial in the fact that it will keep it from sliding around too much. The manual model is great when slicing is only a task that you preform on an occasional basis.

Once you have started looking for a meat slicer it is imperative to find one that is easy to maintain and clean. The blade and the meat carriage should be easily removed, so that cleaning them will not be a hassle. You should also seek a pulse safety switch on electric models. This will prevent the blade from spinning unless the switch is continually pressed. This prevents the blade from continuing to spin after you have removed your hand from the machine, allowing for increased safety.

You can opt for serrated blades or straight blades. Serrated blades can create crumbs when slicing vegetables or bread. Straight, smooth blades will be best able to produce very thinly sliced meat.

The Advantages Of Having A Meat Slicer

Today people have a fast paced life style. Finding the time to do the little things in life can be at times difficult. Standing in long lines can take up valuable time that one could be using for more important task. One task that can be accomplished at home would be to slice one’s own meat. An individual can purchase his or her own meat slicer that will allow more freedom of choice in the cuts of meat.

A good place to start the search for a meat slicer would be on the internet. Two varieties can be found. The first one would be a manual slicer in which the person must pass the blade of the slicer across the meat to make the desired cut. The second type of slicer would be an automatic one. The automatic slicer is safer and faster. The person operating the manual slicer will need to be careful when slicing the meat because the blades are sharp and can make a serious cut. The automatic slicer is safer because one does not have to worry as much about cutting one’s self because the slicer does all of the work.

When looking at slicers one will need to have a budget and know what one is looking for. Price may not matter because safety may be more important. Other products can be sliced using a meat slicer also. The slicer can be used for such things as vegetables, cheese and breads. One important step in owning a slicer is to make sure one cleans it thoroughly after each use. Also, using the slicer for more than just meat will make it a more beneficial appliance.

Although a nine or ten inch blade is sufficient for the medium load meat slicer, the size of the blade is usually interrelated according to the load these meat slicers are capable of handling. Another thing that may determine the size of your blade is the type of meat you plan to slice, heavier duty meats will require larger blades.

One of the best investments that you can make in your home is to purchase quality meat slicers for home use. You can get the cutting quality of grocer and restaurant meat and vegetables in your own home. It is always important to read and understand the instructions that are provided with a slicer that lay out the safety features and operation procedures.

A slicer is reliable, but it is also dangerous to use if used incorrectly. You can easily work with slicers in your kitchen to help you prepare foods faster and of desired thickness or shapes. A slicer is an efficient device that will provide you years of use.

Everything You Need To Know About Traditional Kitchens

Traditional kitchens are growing yearly in popularity as home owners look to add elegance back into their most used room. While modern is still sought after many feel that a certain elegance has escaped newer kitchen redesigns. Obviously this style has some important factors that make up the look and these should be kept in mind.

When one speaks of traditional we are describing a look and feel that is akin to the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. This means styles from all of these periods can be incorporated into the design. Of course there are some key features you can expect to see regardless of the period.

Obviously the design styling can encompass a lot but in general you can expect to see certain important design features such as crown moldings. Crown molding will not look the same from all eras obviously but you can expect them to be present. Other key ornamental pieces that you can expect will add a certain style and look to your kitchen.

The materials that make up the cabinets are critical as well. Wood is prominent and certain types of wood such as Walnut, Cherry or Mahogany were most often used. Within each era the look can also be attained through the use of stains or color and the prominence of the grains of the wood.

Hardware comes down to the fixtures found on the cabinets as well as other doors in the kitchen. One should not overlook the importance of choosing and adding the right fixtures to complete the room. The right fixtures can be antique ones that will add an aged look to the design as well as more modern ones that will fit easily into a 20th century inspired design.

When one speaks of Traditional there are some distinct styles or subcategories to be familiar with. A Georgian style is one that features cherry or walnut as the main material used as well as black accents. The Victorian style will have dark stained woods with heavy grains. Elaborate and antique looking fixtures finish off the room perfectly. The Italian design style uses a rope style crown molding with light colored painted cabinets.

Traditional kitchens are becoming an alternative to the modern look and feel of many homes now. These kitchen designs celebrate the look and feel of a bygone era that had many tasteful and long lasting design styles. Design features will be featured in all these style of cabinets as well as the hardware chose in order to complete the look.

Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine Review

Quality comes in many forms. The Breville Barista Express starts with heft. It is a reasonably heavy unit that once put on a counter, will stay there. I am able to consistently pull a good shot from this unit. Steam never runs out, and can heat up more milk than you can drink.

However, I am most impressed with the design. The beautiful metal craftsmanship is just the start, as are the labels and organization of the packaging. The disassembly for cleaning shows that the people who designed the Barista Express understand the end user. I am very impressed with the simplicity and work flow of this machine.

A nice feature of this machine is that it will grind and measure your beans for you. Something you would normally find on a super automatic machine. In all other respects, this is a semi-automatic machine. You will still have to mount the portafilter to the group head and also clean it afterwards.

The controls on this machine feel smooth, solid and well made. The heating block and pump assembly are high quality components as well, making it a pleasure to use. There is nice large waste reservoir in the base that is easily removed and replaced after emptying. Another nice touch - a convenient compartment in the base tray for accessories.

A couple of other nice design touches - there is magnetic holder for the tamper on the front of the machine and dry puck feature to make your cleanup a little easier.

From the looks of it, this unit has exchanged the hot water dispenser for a bean grinder. If you don’t want the grinder or the pre-programmable settings, then look into the other nearly identical Breville units in the 800 series. Unless you have a grinder, however, you will want this unit. Trust me - the ease of use and minimal cleanup are well worth it.

I really can’t praise this machine enough. It’s customizable, durable and quick. It’s beautifully sleek and easy to use. The Breville Barista Express does it all and it does it with class and style.

For more technical details, ratings and videos about the Breville Barista Express visit Tim’s espresso machine reviews website. In addition to reviews, you will also find tips and tricks to making your espresso the greatest!

What You Need To Know About The Price Of Blenders

There are two kinds of blenders. There’s the top blender and the newest one that is much lighter called the hand held blender. There are differences in their features and this really is what sets the price of these blenders very far apart.

Let’s first discuss hand held blenders. A few of the greatest names include Cuisinart, Faberware and Toastmaster. The price range of these three is within the $11 to $30 price range with speed variations from a single to 18 settings.

Then you have brands like Braun, Black and Decker, Hamilton Beach and Oster that sell their blends within the $35 to $50 range. It has the same speed settings like the very first but comes with a pulse function thrown in and have a capacity between 40oz to 56oz. For $5 to $10 more, you can get those which have bigger capacities.

The price of blenders gets higher due to both the high quality of the materials used and the motor capacity. You’ll need to pay $70 to $100 to get that and a few of the best brands to watch out for are Cuisinart, KitchenAid, Hamilton Beach, Oster and Waring.

But if you are just using it to stir or mix things then you can stick with something fundamental that does not go above $100. For those who want a challenge, go for something in between and don’t be concerned because these blenders all come with an instructional booklet whilst some have videos.

The blender has been around for nearly a century and there’s nothing yet within the marketplace that’s able to replace its usefulness in the kitchen. Whilst the price of the blender will be the concern of many, it is best to look beyond that because you will find other issues to consider when you plan to buy one from the shop.

These include the capacity, its wattage, the features, sturdiness and controls. These are things you have to ask your self every time you examine one when you look for these at the appliance store or online. If you’re in a position to find the right blender, pay for it and then bring it home.

The price of the blender is reasonable if you are able to use it for five years or more without any problems. Of course, you have to clean it so it stays in tip top condition ready for the subsequent cake, concoction or recipe that you will make.
