The Eight Primary Designs For Kitchen Cabinet Doors

Kitchen cabinet doors are the most obvious part of cabinets. In fact, your kitchen cabinet doors will define the style and design of your remodeled kitchen. The cabinet door style will be duplicated in the drawer front design too. It is also possible to enhance and change some of these styles to make your kitchen design more unique.

The eight primary styles of kitchen cabinet doors are:

- Reveal-overlay panel - Created by adding an overlay on the front of the door to create the appearance of a recessed panel while retaining the strength of a flat panel door.

- Flat panel - A flat, plain door for contemporary kitchens.

- Frame and panel - Places a frame around a plain center panel.

- Beaded frame and panel - The overlay panel has a beaded edge.

- Square raised panel - The center panel is raised slightly more than the edges of the door.

- Bead board panel - The panel uses a vertically grooved center panel for a more distinctive appearance.

- Curved raised panel - A raised panel door, with top of the panel slightly arched or curved.

- Cathedral panel - Another variation on the raised panel door, with a panel that has at the top the distinctive curves of a cathedral window.

Most kitchen cabinet doors can be further personalized by adding additional layers of framing or overlay, except the flat panel and the beadboard panel styles. The panels can also be carved with various designs. All of these styles of kitchen cabinet doors can be used in natural or stained wood or can be painted.

Your kitchen cabinet doors can also be treated in other ways to make them unique. For example, door panels can be replaced with glass, or some of the kitchen cabinet doors can be excluded completely for open shelving. Several types of glass can be used to make the items in the cabinets less apparent while maintaining the feel of openness. For example, colored or stained glass can be used very effectively in cathedral panel styles. Even leaded or etched glass can be used in this uniquely shaped opening. Etching the glass opens hundreds of possibilities for a unique kitchen design that highlights a special family interest (vegetables, animals, flowers).

Other glass options include frosted glass, textured glass or barnstead glass. The latter is a clear liner-ribbed patterned glass with embedded wire to make the glass somewhat opaque. Colored glass can be very effective in a few of the cabinet doors (for variation). Yet another possibility for a truly distinctive look in kitchen cabinet doors would use layered glass. This glass is produced by combining tempered glass with another material. Often these materials are very exotic, such as rice paper or a metallic film. The special material is placed between glass layers to create a very unique effect.

The most common styles of kitchen cabinet doors are flat panel for more contemporary kitchens and raised panel doors for other styles. Overlays and beadboard panel doors are less common. Consider all available options before making a selection for your kitchen cabinet doors. With a little imagination and a good cabinetmaker, you can create a completely unique kitchen design.

Adjusting The Kitchen Display Cases To Create A Brand New Look

Aside from being fully functional, the kitchen should also be attractive to the eyes because working in it on a daily basis can also prove boring. Therefore, if your feel that preparing meals in the kitchen is not as exciting as it usually should be, maybe it’s about time that you perform some remodeling. I’m not talking about a general kitchen makeover. Just start with the cabinets in the meantime and see how that small change can do a lot of wonders.

So how do you know if it’s actually time for the kitchen cabinets to undergo some major changes? Simply looking at them would be enough to let you know if they are ready for a change. These are the signs you should look out for: the paint is kind of worn out already, the drawers are difficult to open than usual, and the overall appearance of the cabinets makes you think they’re over a century old.

If ever you decide to seek the services of kitchen remodeling companies, go ahead and take the plunge. Such companies provide services that include letting you choose styles and materials you want to use in renovating your kitchen cupboard. You’ll also be assisted by a company designer and give you options on how you want the designs to be done. Normally, one week is what it would take for the makeover to be complete.

Another option would be to do the remodeling yourself. You’ll still need help from a kitchen remodeling company to provide you with materials or equipments needed to accomplish the job. Installing additional hardware can give the furniture a new appearance, and once you do some repainting jobs, you will literally upgrade your kitchen’s overall facade.

Aside from simply altering the appearance of your cabinet at the surface, you can also buy brand new doors to replace the old ones. Choose a slab locker door style if you want it simple but solid. If you’re into elegance, go for a glass door. It doesn’t matter how simple the style as long as it’s new, it will surely give your kitchen cabinet a fresh look.

There are pros and cons both for a professional and DIY kitchen remodeling. When deciding which path you’re going to take, weigh each side and see where you will be able to achieve a more upgraded look for the kitchen with the least expense.

Update Your Kitchen Cabinets - Don’t Replace Them

You might be surprised at how important kitchen cabinets are when it comes to the overall look of your kitchen. Unfortunately the designs and trends that were once in style don’t last forever; neither does paint or stain. But if you don’t have the cash, what can you do when your kitchen needs an update? Well, there are a few tricks to use to update your kitchen cabinet doors, and you don’t have to spend a lot of cash to do it.

The first and easiest method you should consider is to replace your current cabinet door handles or knobs. They are one of the things that can easily make your cabinets look old or outdated. If you replace them once in a while, you’ll be able to update your whole kitchen by spending very little money. And new hardware is always nice too, right?

As you’re looking for hardware for your cabinets, you might want to hit up the local flea market and bargain stores before you check out the big retailers. The hardware you find might be someones old hardware, but you should be able to clean them up to look as good as new. And most likely there’s nothing wrong with them. The previous owner just might not have liked them anymore. One mans just is another mans treasure, right?

You also might want to think about repainting or re-staining your current cabinet doors. All you have to do is sand off the old paint or stain and get some new stuff on there. And be sure to remember that you also need to re-do the visible parts of the cabinets themselves so that they match the doors. Of course this method of updating your kitchen cabinets requires more time and work, but the results will be well worth it!

If you just don’t feel like re-doing them with new paint or stain, you could also easily replace the doors of the cabinets. You should be able to find a variety of doors that would go well with your existing cabinets, which you can replace with a newer, updated look. The overall look of your cabinets is primarily based on the doors themselves, not the entire cabinet, replacing just the doors is an excellent way to clean up and update your kitchen without spending a good deal of money.

If you haven’t already, you’ll soon find out that updating your kitchen can get pretty expensive. That’s why you shouldn’t waste the extra cash by buying brand new cabinets when you can simply update them with very little money and work. Another option might even be to hire a contractor to build just new cabinet doors for about half the price it would cost for all new cabinets. Why just the doors? Because most likely there’s absolutely nothing wrong with the cabinets themselves. Don’t replace what isn’t broken! Use a little imagination and create a whole new look for your kitchen for less cash than the cost of new cabinets.
