Update Your Kitchen Cabinets - Don't Replace Them

You might be surprised at how important kitchen cabinets are when it comes to the overall look of your kitchen. Unfortunately the designs and trends that were once in style don't last forever; neither does paint or stain. But if you don't have the cash, what can you do when your kitchen needs an update? Well, there are a few tricks to use to update your kitchen cabinet doors, and you don't have to spend a lot of cash to do it.

The first and easiest method you should consider is to replace your current cabinet door handles or knobs. They are one of the things that can easily make your cabinets look old or outdated. If you replace them once in a while, you'll be able to update your whole kitchen by spending very little money. And new hardware is always nice too, right?

As you're looking for hardware for your cabinets, you might want to hit up the local flea market and bargain stores before you check out the big retailers. The hardware you find might be someones old hardware, but you should be able to clean them up to look as good as new. And most likely there's nothing wrong with them. The previous owner just might not have liked them anymore. One mans just is another mans treasure, right?

You also might want to think about repainting or re-staining your current cabinet doors. All you have to do is sand off the old paint or stain and get some new stuff on there. And be sure to remember that you also need to re-do the visible parts of the cabinets themselves so that they match the doors. Of course this method of updating your kitchen cabinets requires more time and work, but the results will be well worth it!

If you just don't feel like re-doing them with new paint or stain, you could also easily replace the doors of the cabinets. You should be able to find a variety of doors that would go well with your existing cabinets, which you can replace with a newer, updated look. The overall look of your cabinets is primarily based on the doors themselves, not the entire cabinet, replacing just the doors is an excellent way to clean up and update your kitchen without spending a good deal of money.

If you haven't already, you'll soon find out that updating your kitchen can get pretty expensive. That's why you shouldn't waste the extra cash by buying brand new cabinets when you can simply update them with very little money and work. Another option might even be to hire a contractor to build just new cabinet doors for about half the price it would cost for all new cabinets. Why just the doors? Because most likely there's absolutely nothing wrong with the cabinets themselves. Don't replace what isn't broken! Use a little imagination and create a whole new look for your kitchen for less cash than the cost of new cabinets.
