Basic Concepts Of Interior Design

In the interior design of any structure, there are several important aspects that should be kept in mind. By adhering by the basic tenets given below, most of the major matters will be tackled. Each of these has a special role to play and it may be used in many ways on the basis of the kind of space you are dealing with.

Unity: This entails the idea that the entire house or any other structure is to be seen as a single unit, separated or divided only by walls and staircases, and that there must be a certain amount of internal consistency in the design of the unit as an overall entity. The central theme should never be lost sight of.

Balance: This involves appropriately adjusting objects in a particular space. Objects which have equivalent visual appeal should be put at different locations in the room to strike a balance along a predetermined axis. Balance can be of three types. The simplest one to accomplish and the most traditional one is symmetrical balance. The second is asymmetrical, which needs a lot of imagination, but is increasingly popular. The last is radial, which is achieved by taking a central point or item from which the other pieces seem to radiate.

Proportion: This is basically to do with the dimensions and proportions of the objects. It is critical that articles in a room look good together with respect to their sizes. Lack of proportion will result in imbalance that will adversely affect the appearance of the room, as some things will be over emphasized while others will not get enough visibility.

Focus: A focal point in interior design of a space is important for its appeal. What type of focal item you select is up to you. It could be something like a nice artwork or a furniture item. The item must be such that it is important in the overall design of the room and is able to grab the attention of the onlooker. It must be eye-catching without appearing irrelevant in the room.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is very essential for attaining a good design. The design must appear to flow according to a pattern from one point to the next. Using many arcs, ornate walls or floors, decorative fixtures at regular distances, alternate shades etc can help attain a discernible rhythm.

Interior designing of a space will be coherent if these basic guidelines are taken into consideration. However, it is best to use the expertise of an interior design professional who can help you with these factors and a lot more.
