White, Yellow, Blue, So What Color For Our Kitchen?
The biggest decision that one can make when designing a kitchen is the color they want to use. This is an important decision and one that nobody else can make for you. While one person may feel calm and relaxed with a blue color another person may be sad and unhappy. Colors tend to make us feel things, and the feelings are different for everyone. That being said, you have to be the one to pick out your own colors.
Black is never a good idea to paint your kitchen, if you want to have black as a trimming that is one thing. But you want to remember you stay away from dark colors if you don’t want the room to seem smaller. Dark colors tend to make a room feel smaller, and not as open. While dark blues, greens, and other colors aren’t as bad as black they can have the same effect.
In contrast lighter colors tend to make a room feel bigger and more open. While whites are not usually what people choose, a good cream, pale yellow, or pale blue can be very nice choices. This will help to create an open and welcoming feel in the kitchen, making it seem more inviting to guests.
Red and oranges are what some people like to go with, however the thing to remember with those colors, is they are a warm color. Hence they can tend to invoke a sense of heat. Kitchens can stay warm because of the baking and cooking that goes on in it. Therefore warm colors may make the kitchen seem a bit too warm for most people.
You want a room that looks appealing and is what you like. What you don’t want is a color that you will grow tired of. If you choose a color that you normally wouldn’t like this can be a red flag, you want a color you know you like and a color that you won’t live with and then want to change in a short amount of time.
I mentioned before that white has it’s drawbacks. The main drawback is that white tends to show stains and discoloring while yellows and creams can hide it a bit more. Kitchens tend to take a lot of spills and messes, it’s important to remember that you need a color that wears well with time.
Ultimately the choice is up to you, however, it’s a good idea to keep these things in mind when picking out the color you want. These are simple tips to help you think a little more about what you want so that you don’t end up with a color that makes you unhappy after a week.
