Start Your Day With a Smoothie
I don’t know what I would do without my blender. We want to start our day nourished and full of energy, so every morning we drink a smoothie mix of tofu, fruit and ice. I normally include chlorophyll or spirulina powder in the mixture along with some powder from the astralagus root for immune system boost. If soy is not suitable to your taste, you can substitute it with almond milk, yogurt, rice milk or coconut milk. Coconut milk is really tasty in a pineapple smoothie. Every now and then, I also add a tablespoon of almond or peanut butter. A healthy meal in itself, this smoothie can fuel our body’s energy for hours. We fancy as well, strawberry smoothies with yogurt. You can make various smoothies preparation of your liking. Make a smoothie that is suitable to your taste and regimen, simultaneously supplying your nutritional needs. You can create smoothies for various health reasons such as immune system enhancement, physical conditioning, strength and energy boosters and intellectual capacity improvement, or, for the purpose to relax like an afternoon refreshment. It is remarkable to recognize that in 1922, the earliest blender, was used to supply malts and milk shakes at soda fountains. And we have Stephen J. Poplawski to thank for this wonderful invention. First recognized as the Miracle Mixer, the Waring Blender was launched in 1937. It was priced at 29.75 dollars and sold over a million pieces during the seventeen years.
Roughly all kitchens have blenders or has had one. They cut, soften and pulverize fruits and vegetables converting them to liquid form. Other than smoothies, you can also make hotcakes, broths, frappes or alcoholic drinks on ice. Surely, this is the part where you got to enjoy. The cleaning up portion is the boring part for some people.
There are several means to maintain your blender’s cleanliness and seamless performance. If the blender is not cleaned right, food particles that often get caught in between the blades remain in the bottom. Bacteria can breed thus making your preparation unfit for a healthy diet.
Majority of blenders can be dismantled. I know that most of us would just like to rinse out or wash the jar, but food can become trapped on the blades and in the bottom. So follow the manufacturer’s suggestions on how to clean and store your blender. Be extremely careful in handling the sharp blades for this can cut you. Use the sponge or dishcloth in warm water with soap. Soap all the little parts and wash well. Dishwashers are not suitable for blenders because they can scratch them whether glass or plastic. That is why I recommend hand-washing them. You may also use a baking soda solution in the blender to remove any desiccated or encrusted substance. The combination is 50 percent water and 50 percent baking soda.
There are two blenders in my possession. One blender is for meal preparation while the other is for making beauty concoctions. I make a skin cream using aloe, vitamins A, E, C. I will add a few drops of essential oil such as lavender, rosemary or geranium. I add a small amount of shea butter and olive oil in my cream during the cold and dry season. I add a drop of grapefruit seed extract in all my cream mixtures to preserve it. This is pretty much as natural a skin care product you can get, given that all raw materials are organic.
Therefore start your day with a nutritious drink or smoothie and finish it with a spa treatment from your organic skin cream mixture. You will observe the difference on the way you look and feel.
