Juicer Comparison Guide

Choosing a juicer can be a difficult job. We were certainly confused when we first started out. With all the different brands and competing claims, it is easy to end up being very confused. But once you know the basics, it’s quite straightforward.

What you first have to realize is that not all juicers are the same, and which one is right for you depends on what you plan to do with it. It’s not all about making a tasty juice. So to help us decide we need to know the difference between the four main types of juicers available. Once we know what type of juicer we want we can decide on the exact juicer from within that range.

So what are the four main juicers on the market:

1. Centrifugal juicers are usually the cheapest, though there are some notable exceptions. They are also the ones that most people end up buying, though many live to regret their choice. They are cheap and easy to use but have some major downsides. For us, the main one is that they can’t juice leafy greens (with a few exceptions) or wheatgrass. These are among the most nutritious of juicers so should be top of you list for juicing. The other point we don’t like is that the motor rotates at too fast a speed, thereby helping to kill valuable nutrients. But for a cheap first juicer, this is often an obvious choice. Our favorite centrifugal juicer is the Juiceman Juicer Jr.

2. Single-Auger Juicers - these are sometimes called single-gear juicers and are very popular. They combine a great price with a high-quality juice and multiple functions. These can juice almost any fruit or vegetables, including leafy greens and wheatgrass. They are mostly low-speed juicers, so you will get a delicious juice that has most of the enzymes and nutrients still intact. These juicers can also usually make frozen desserts, baby food, dips, sauces, pasta and a whole lot more. The Samson Juicer even comes with an oil extractor, which makes it one of our favourites.

3. Twin gear juicers are the most expensive. They also produce the best quality juice. It takes a little more time to assemble and disassemble them, but many people consider this a small price to pay for the extra quality. Ideal for serious juicers and people recovering from health challenges.

4. Citrus Juicers - these are in a class of their own, and as the name suggests, they are dedicated citrus juicers. So if you just juice oranges and other citrus fruit, then this could be the type of juicer for you.

So now that you have a good idea of what type of juicer will suit your needs it’s time to search for a particular juicer within that range.
