How to Clean a Coffee Machine
Having the best ground coffee and the best coffee maker alone are not enough. You also need to keep it cleaned on a regular basis if you want the machine to keep on producing the best-tasting coffee. Cleaning the machine at least once a month is the best way to go. If you’ve noticed that your machine is not producing good coffee lately, it might be time to clean it up. The residues from past brews could be causing the bad taste.
There are several ways on how you can clean a coffee maker, but I found out that the best way to do it is by mixing one part of vinegar with two parts water. Pour the mixture into the machine’s reservoir, and then turn it on. Once it has completely run through, turn the machine off and then let it cool for about twenty minutes.
After letting the machine cool down, drain the mixture and then repeat the process if this is your first time cleaning the machine after a long time. Just make sure to use a fresh mixture of water and vinegar. Just to remind you, that’s one part vinegar mixed with two parts of water.
After doing this, rinse the machine with warm water. Fill the machine’s reservoir with plain water and then turn it on so that it will rinse the vinegar you just used.
Let the coffee maker cool down (for twenty minutes) before rinsing it again. Rinsing twice is needed to make sure that the reservoir is properly cleaned.
Regularly cleaning your coffee maker with water and vinegar does not only make it last, but it also makes the coffee it produces taste way better.
I have a coffee maker that’s been around for five years now, and let me tell you that it’s not ready to go yet. My secret is as simple as keeping it cleaned once a month using vinegar and water.
