A Review Of The Cuisinart Griddler GR 4– Is It Right For Your Kitchen?
How do you choose a contact grill that will suit your needs? There are so many choices on the market. The Cuisinart Griddler GR 4 is the one we use; this article explains what we like, what we don’t like.
Cuisinart Griddler GR 4 Features
The Griddler is designed for:
- grilling boneless meat (pork loin chops, burgers, sausages, boneless chicken cuts, fish)
- grilling wraps, panini, or plain sandwiches.
- in the open position - eggs, bacon, pancakes, French toast, open-faced grilled cheese sandwiches.
- grilling fresh vegetables.
With the Griddler you get:
- two sets of dishwasher safe grill and griddle plates.
- two cups to catch fat drippings and a plastic tool for cleaning debris from the grill plates.
- floating hinge and heat-proof handle.
- sturdy build with stainless steel housing.
- 3-year guarantee.
Cooking with the Griddler
We have used our Griddler a lot for grilling meats. It does a good job. We find that meats are more tender off the grill, and they get done very quickly. Timing is important, so as not to overcook the food.
For grilling sandwiches and wraps the Griddler is the best tool we have. Crisply bread and properly melted cheese taste great! And wraps get warmed through before the tortilla gets dry or brittle.
We haven’t used our Griddler opened flat a great deal because of limited counter space. But it would be ideal for French toast, or sausages, and maybe hash browns, too.
What We Like, or Not, About the Griddler GR 4
On the whole, we’re satisfied with the Griddler:
- cleaning up after each use keeps it simple, soaking the plates makes life easy if you don’t use a dishwasher.
- popping the cooking plates off and on is a breeze.
- it reaches the desired heat quite fast, and I’ve had no problem with it maintaining the set temperature while cooking.
- it’s well-made and sturdy.
The Griddler, like a lot of things, is not perfect:
- the cups for catching fat are a nuisance; they slid away if you’re not careful.
- in spite of the “non-stick” coating, we have to use a light brushing of oil to prevent sticking.
- if you’re cooking anything very fatty, a contact grill is going to make a bit of a mess because hot fat spits and spreads.
Our Conclusion
The Griddler has been a convenient and useful appliance for us. It does help to get meals on the table quickly, and you can cook healthy meals with it if you choose.
The Cuisinart brand has served us well, too. We have enjoyed consistent quality and a high level of service.
