Selecting Kitchen Appliances for Use in Your Kitchen

When you are drawing up your kitchen design plans, you need to look at the appliances you need to buy, what are the best for you, and where and how you will store them.

For those large and major appliances, like refrigerator and stove, several kitchens have already had the spaces built for these. However, for some other appliances, knowing where to put them can be quite a challenge. This would usually depend on how big the space of your kitchen is. Storage space is usually a problem on small kitchens, so you need to look for the most effective solutions for this, depending on the kind of appliances that you plan on buying for your kitchen.

Let us take into consideration some of the usual situations and find out the best solution for them:

If you plan on buying a separate oven without a stovetop, the best place to put this is to build it along with your kitchen cabinets, instead of putting it on the cupboard. Doing this will take up the space of only one cabinet, therefore, you are not really losing a lot of space when it comes to storage, and therefore you no longer need to look for additional space. And this goes the same for extra burners -you may fit them to one of your countertops or place on top of the kitchen island, that is, if you’ve got some space to build one.

As for the microwave, the main problem for this is that it could take up some space on the counter, which is really not practical for those with small kitchen. The solution for this is by making use of some space on your walls. You may build a shelf on your kitchen wall that the microwave can sit on, or you may even set it to the cabinets, the same with the extra oven that was mentioned above. However, before you do such, find out who is going to use it, because if you allow your children to have access to it, then you better consider the height.

As for the dishwasher, well, this is not about your husband or the maid, but if you do want to own a dishwasher, yet you do not have enough space, you should sacrifice one of the lower kitchen cupboards in order to fit it in. It should be placed right next on the sink, which should be near a source of water. This same principle also applies to the washing machine, where some people would have them stored inside their kitchens. You should consider if you could afford to give-up some of your cupboards for this. If not, it’s probably better for you to place your washing machine on the balcony or inside your bathroom, or perhaps on your corridor, so you won’t lose huge amount of space.

And what about where and how to buy your appliances? This very much depends on your budget. If you can afford to buy everything new, that is best. But if you do so, make sure to purchase insurance. If funds are tight, you can purchase reconditioned refrigerators and ovens, but make sure that they come from reputable places with some kind of certificate stating that they are in good repair.
